“Ethics is not about what we say. It's about what we do. It's a code of conduct based on certain universal moral duties and obligations that indicate how one should behave. It deals with the ability to distinguish good from evil, right from wrong and what is proper from improper”. (Jim Lichtman 1996)
About Us
The Jerusalem Center for Ethics was established by Mishkenot Sha’ananim and the Jerusalem Founהמלחמה בשחיתות dation in 1997. A distinguished Board of Directors guides the work of the Center headed by retired Justice of the Israeli Supreme Court Prof. Yitzhak Zamir.
The Center was developed from the need to understand and apply ethical notions and standards as a compass for contemporary society in a rapidly changing world, and from the realization that programs in the field of ethics are perfectly suited for regional and international cooperation.
The Center is housed in the Konrad Adenauer Conference Center of Mishkenot Sha'ananim in Jerusalem, with the inspiring view of Mt. Zion, the Judean Desert and the magnificent Old City. The Center sits at the crossroads of past, present and future - the new Jerusalem daring to venture outside of the Old City walls. While Jerusalem is an historic and cosmopolitan city, it is also a living, breathing city that holds within its especially diverse social and cultural fabric the richness of the entire world. The Center’s purpose is to infuse this diversity with a strong sense of ethical standards.
