The historic Mishkenot Sha’ananim complex – in the picturesque Yemin Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem – features a special guest house for artists, intellectuals and academics, within walking or brief traveling distance from Jerusalem’s cultural and entertainment centres and its sacred and historic sites.
The Guest House, situated in an impressive building that embodies both simplicity and elegance, was officially dedicated in 1973. Its unique atmosphere encourages creativity and imparts a sense of serenity among its visitors. Over the years, the Guest House has welcomed many artists and intellectuals, including Nobel laureates and other world-renowned thinkers.
Following years of intensive use, the Jerusalem Foundation, with the assistance of friends of Konrad Adenauer, first Chancellor of the post-war Federal Republic of Germany, embarked on an extensive project to preserve and expand Mishkenot Sha’ananim and adapt the site to the needs of the third millennium. Work included preservation of the historic building and construction of a new wing, carved into the stone hillside, in which the Konrad Adenauer Conference Centre and Montefiore Restaurant are located, overlooking the breathtaking landscape of the Old City and surrounding area. Construction and preservation plans integrated traditional and modern building styles and materials, rendering Mishkenot Sha’ananim a symbol and living proof of Jerusalem’s vitality as a city of the past, present and future.
